Celebrity Appearances
The 16th century writer, Erasmus, wrote a jolly little dialogue between St Peter and the freshly departed Pope Julius II, in his book "Julius Exclusus". Julius rants about not being allowed into heaven, while Peter bars the gates.
But way before that, Peter guested in several 2nd-century AD writings. What survives of the Gospel of Peter is a crucifixion account with walking crosses. The Apocalypse of Peter is full of graphic detail on the torments of Hell, and was hugely influential on medieval beliefs about Hell. There's also a Preaching of Peter and an Acts of Peter, in case you're interested.
Peter appeared in the first-ever feature film, Quo Vadis? in 1912. He has also been played by John Cleese in the film, The Unorganized Manager. Then, of course, there's The Last Temptation of Christ, Jesus Christ Superstar, and other movies.
